Hailing from the SF Bay Area, home of metal titans like Metallica and Testament, Arcane Ritual is a new breed of gothic metal with elements of melodic thrash and doom. Current EP ‘Enemy of the State’ gives listeners and taste of things to come. The band also released their first video for ‘Entwined in Starlight’ featuring the members rocking out on the iconic SF Bay Area coastline.
“We’ve been working like maniacs all year but you gotta strike while the ideas are coming!” says lead vocalist Teresa Camp. And this year has been the year of many ideas for Arcane Ritual! “The songs keep coming and they get heavier and heavier” says songwriter/guitarist Jarek Tatarek “by the time the album comes out people are not going to know what hit them!”
Jarek’s extensive resume includes fronting legendary Polish thrash band Astharoth and guesting on the debut album for prog metal band In the Silence, and performing with them at Prog Power 2013. He’s written over 10 albums and plays guitar, bass, keyboards and the very rare, unqiue GuitarViol (utilized by Tyler Bates on many projects including the last Marilyn Manson album.) Jarek is a consummate song writer and rarely takes breaks. A lifelong metalhead who also enjoys world music, Jarek is not afraid to experiment and ‘doesn’t give a fuck’ what anybody thinks about what he does.
Teresa has been writing poetry and lyrics since childhood and started playing guitar as a teenager. Previous bands/projects include Halcyon Days and the award winning belly dance/metal/world music group Arcane Dimension. Vocal training includes operatic training, blues vocal styling, speech level singing, balkan and Melissa Cross techniques. Teresa is always trying to push the envelope and can be heard experimenting with heavier techniques on the EP “Enemy of the State”. In addition to her vocal duties Teresa is a professionally trained bellydancer and produced and edited the band’s first music video for ‘Entwined in Starlight.’
The band is heavily influenced by gothic/doom metal titans Type O Negative and Moonspell, as well as Within Temptation. Combined this with their thrash idols Testament and Kreator and you have a recipe for the sound created by Arcane Ritual. Lyrical themes range from esoteric and mystical, to empowering, to political and scathing in their view of society. As Teresa puts it “first and foremost, we write music for ourselves, it’s our only outlet and how we cope. But if any of our music can help people feel supported and combat the BS society tries to shove down our throats to make us ‘acceptable’ then it’s worth the effort to share it with the world.”
The band loves to interact with fans and friends on Facebook and Instagram and invites you to join their mayem!
